Allen Announces 2022 Decision

The Nebraska native will play his final game as a Husker on Black Friday.

Friday's game against Iowa will be the final in a Nebraska uniform for tight end Austin Allen.

The Aurora, Nebraska product took to social media Tuesday to make the announcement in a video.

Dear Old Nebraska,

I want to thank you for everything that you've done for me. You've given me five years of memories and experiences that I'll be forever grateful for. Nebraska just isn't another stop on the path for me; this is home.

Thank you to coach Frost, coach Beckton, and the entire Husker football organization.

The relationships I have built helped me mold me into the man I am today. Knowing that I'll never put on the scarlet and cream again breaks my heart. I know I left everything out there on the field for you guys.

To the greatest fans in college football, thank you for showing up every Saturday and giving us your all. Husker football runs through you.

Fulfilling a dream of becoming a Nebraska football captain has had its fair share of ups and downs, but you guys have shown me unwavering support throughout the entire process.

I know the wins weren't always where we wanted, but Husker football is getting better day by day.

Husker Nation, you will always have a place in my heart, and I thank you for that.

Allen has had a record-setting career in his time at Nebraska.

Against Wisconsin, Allen broke Johnny Mitchell's record for yards by a tight end in a game with 143. He also increased his season receptions to 36, breaking Tyler Hoppes's record.

Allen is on the cusp of another Husker tight end record: season receiving yards. He is sitting at 547 in 2021, just 13 shy of Junior Miller, who was a first-round draft pick in 1980.

Allen is the first Husker to announce a decision on next year regarding the use of the NCAA allowed extra season of eligibility.
