All 240 members of the USA Olympic Team have been completely vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus, ahead of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games coming up next month.

Jon Mason, senior director of communications for Team USA, has stated that the entire team has been required to be vaccinated with no exception.

This is a big change in the team compared to last year’s Summer Games in Tokyo, where only 100 out of the 613 competing USA athletes were vaccinated. The request for mandatory vaccination from the athletes was introduced back in September by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).

Jonathan Finnoff, chief medical officer of the USOPC, told reporters that the committee’s guidance that the athletes received regarding the vaccine and Covid-19 “really resonated with the athletes.”

Vaccination is sort of the foundation of our COVID mitigation protocol,” Finnoff added.
