The Super Bowl's big winners this year? Chicken wings!

Who will win this year's Super Bowl when the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Los Angeles Rams? Football fans can find out February 13. But we already know that America's chicken producers are set to win big, because nearly 1.5 billion chicken wings will be devoured during the most-anticipated sporting weekend of the year.

The Super Bowl is the most talked about event of the year. But talk usually revolves around the sporting performances of the American football teams that have made it to the NFL final, or the spectacular half-time show that's staged every year featuring the biggest stars. Indeed, this NFL championship game is the spectacle of excess. And the accompanying snacks and meals are often no exception. Some 1.42 billion chicken wings will be eaten during this long-awaited weekend -- an exceptional figure shared by the organization representing poultry producers in the United States.

Already during the playoffs, spectators showed a taste for these morsels of chicken that you nibble with your fingers. Sales were up nearly 40% in Los Angeles. In Cincinnati, the increase was more than 27%.

And this love of chicken wings is all the more significant since poultry prices have risen due to high demand, labor shortages and rising taxes, a kilo of chicken wings costing thirty cents more than last year.
