Lakers Waive DeAndre Jordan, Sign DJ Augustin & Wenyen Gabriel

As things have started to go haywire, the Los Angeles Lakers plan to make some tweaks to their roster.

The team plans to waive backup big man DeAndre Jordan and sign free agent guard DJ Augustin. The move shows the Lakers are placing an emphasis on guard play and shooting—in lieu of post play.

L.A. also plans to sign forward Wenyen Gabriel to a two-way contract.

Jordan appeared in 32 games for the Lakers this season and played 12.8 minutes per. Augustin played in 34 games for the Rockets but was waived earlier this month. A career 38% shooter from three-point land, it’s not a shock to see a team pick him up for a playoff push.

Likewise, Jordan will be a hot commodity elsewhere for some frontcourt presence for a team in the postseason hunt. The 76ers are a team expected to pursue him, and they could very well be his frontrunner; Philadelphia lost its other backup center, Andre Drummond, in the James Harden trade.

The Lakers are 3-7 over their last 10 games and currently occupy the ninth spot in the Western Conference (27-33). Not to mention, Anthony Davis is sidelined for the foreseeable future with a foot injury.
