Broncos’ franchise legend John Elway wants a role with the team’s new ownership, but it remains to be seen if there will be one for him once the team is sold.
The former signal-caller will continue his role in the current operations, albeit a less-involved one than he’s had in the past. He’ll serve as an outside consultant to GM George Paton this coming season.
Elway stepped down as GM before Paton was hired in 2021, and he spent last season as the team’s president of football operations.
The 2021 season was the final in a five-year contract extension Elway signed in 2017.
The Broncos are moving toward a sale, and new ownership will determine what kind of role—if any—Elway plays in the future of the franchise with which he’s been associated for the last 40 years.
