This scooter promises off-roading thrills

What if you took your electric scooter off-roading? Segway has just unveiled a brand new model capable of reaching 70 km/h, ideal for having fun on a track or closed private property.

If you are a fan of the thrills that come from zipping around on a track, you may soon run into an owner of an impressive, high-performance scooter, the Segway KickScooter GT2. If you find yourself at the handlebars of this scooter, you'll be guiding a machine capable of reaching 70 km/h. At that speed, a helmet is obviously essential, and it's unlikely that it could be used on the street in many jurisdictions. On a scooter, traveling at such high speeds would only be suitable for a circuit or private property. In fact it's the manufacturer who suggests this, on its website.

To manage its speed, it has two disc brakes at the front and rear. Its adjustable hydraulic damping suspension system is designed for all types of terrain, from soft for fast driving on perfectly flat roads to hard on bumpy surfaces. The traction control system provides more grip, and therefore safety, in tight corners. Note that its 11-inch tires have a jelly layer inside, making them "self-healing" in case of small impacts, for more safety and less maintenance.

Segway promises a range of up to 90 km, enough to do several laps of a circuit, keeping in mind that it will take up to eight hours for a full charge. The scooter should be available sometime this year at a price of around US$4000.
