Jorge Masvidal has inked a new UFC deal.
Specifics of the pact were not disclosed, but his co-agent, Malki Kawa of First Round Management, noted that the contract extension would make Masvidal, 37, one of the five highest-paid UFC fighters. The agent added that deal was signed after about five months of negotiations.
“His contract pays him like a champion and then some,” Kawa said. “And the length of time will be that he will finish his career in the UFC.”
Masvidal, a nine-year UFC vet, beat Colby Covington in a highly anticipated matchup—they’re former best friends—at UFC 272 at T-Mobile Arena. At the event’s media session, Masvidal said he’ll be receiving a sliver of the pay-per-view revenues, while Covington won’t.
A pro fighter since 2003, Masvidal enjoyed a late-career resurgence in 2019 following defeats of Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz.
However, he (35-15) has dropped two consecutive matches, both in UFC welterweight title fights vs. Kamaru Usman.
