Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton, actors who played husband-and-wife in the 2019 Broadway revival of Betrayal, are confirmed engaged after Ashton was spotted sporting a large ring at the 2022 British Academy Film Awards.
Hiddleston and Ashton played married couple Robert and Emma in Betrayal, and Ashton’s character has an affair with Jerry, who was played by Charlie Cox. Hiddleston was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor for the role.
The Loki actor has not spoken on record about the relationship and told The Telegraph in 2017 that he prefers to keep his personal life private. “I love what I do and I dedicate myself with absolute commitment to making great art and entertainment, and in my mind I don’t conflict the two. My work is in the public sphere and I have a private life. And those things are separate,” he said.
As an actor, Ashton is best known as Violet “Vod” Nordstrom, the main role in the Channel 4 comedy Fresh Meat. She has also performed extensively in the West End and appeared in such films as Velvet Buzzsaw and Nocturnal Animals. She will also be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for The Marvels, where she’ll be playing an undisclosed villain role.
Ashton is also an accomplished writer of novels, plays and poetry who was elected to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2021.
