Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Georgia) told Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten to “stay out of our girls’ bathrooms,” in a speech in her home state on Saturday.

“And you know what, Pete Buttigieg can take his electric vehicles and his bicycles,” she said. “And he and his husband can stay out of our girls’ bathrooms.”

It was unclear what Greene was referencing, but she was probably making sure her audience knew that Buttigieg was gay.

Greene brought up men trying to get into women’s bathrooms, likely mixing up gay men and trans women in reference to the debate over which restrooms people who are transgender should use. Neither Buttigieg nor his husband identifies as transgender.
