Former Notre Dame, Bills and Raidersquarterback Daryle Lamonica died Thursday at age 80.
His son, Brandon, says that the former signal-caller died in his sleep and added that no cause of death has been revealed.
In 12 seasons with the Bills and Raiders, “The Mad Bomber” finished 66-16-6 with 19,154 yards, 164 touchdowns (not including 14 by foot), and 138 interceptions.
He earned AFL MVP honors with the Raiders in 1967 (including an AFL title that season) and 1969, and he won two AFL titles with the Bills (1964, 1965).
After playing for the Golden Domers, he was chosen by the Bills in the 24th round of the 1963 AFL draft, as well as by the Packers in the 12th round of the NFL draft that same year; he chose Buffalo and was eventually traded to the Raiders in 1967.
