Former All-Pro left tackle Duane Brown was arrested Sunday morning on gun charges. Authorities said the former Seattle Seahawks tackle was allegedly trying to take it through airport security with a gun in his luggage.
Reportedly, an unloaded gun was found in Brown’s luggage, and he was arrested for possession of a concealed firearm. Brown posted a $10,000 bond and was released from custody late Sunday night.
Brown is one of the more lucrative unrestricted free agents this offseason. The left tackle started all 17 games with the Seattle Seahawks in his fifth year with the team. The 36-year-old was also named as a Pro-Bowl injury replacement for San Fransisco 49ers tackle Trent Williams. Brown has been one of the more consistent offensive linemen the last few seasons. Though knee injuries have been an issue and his practice work has been sparse, Brown has not missed a game in either of the last two seasons. He also ranks seventh among offensive tackles in pass block win rate in the last four seasons with a 91.8% win rate.
Brown was drafted with the 26th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft following an outstanding career with the Virginia Tech Hokies. In his nine seasons with the Texans, Brown was one of the best tackles in the NFL, earning three Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro honors, including First-Team All-Pro in 2012.
Brown was traded to the Seahawks just before the 2017 trade deadline and has started 70 games in that span. There were rumors that Brown wanted a new contract prior to last season, but nothing came about it. The Seahawks got a younger replacement for Brown in this year’s NFL draft, selecting Mississippi State’s agile offensive tackle Charles Cross. The Seahawks are not expected to sign Brown, and there has been no viable interest on the free-agent market regarding the 36-year-old tackle.
There was expected to be some noise for teams to sign him during training camp, however, the legal troubles may hinder that.
