Explore the world of Jordan Peele's forthcoming movie 'Nope' through a metaverse experience

Welcome to the world of Jordan Peele. The "Get Out" director has teamed up with Meta to create a virtual world based on his upcoming movie "Nope," due in US theaters July 22. This virtual reality experience will allow fans to explore this mysterious and unsettling world within Meta's Horizon Worlds metaverse.

"Nope," Jordan Peele's forthcoming movie, is slated for July 22 release in the United States. For the occasion, the renowned filmmaker has a surprise in store for fans. He has teamed up with Meta and Universal Pictures to create a virtual world based on his horror movie. Called "Nope World: by Monkeypaw Productions," the virtual reality experience will allow fans of the Oscar-winning director to explore the unnerving universe of the upcoming feature film in Meta's Horizon Worlds metaverse.

A new kind of experience

Although its designers were not aware of the horror movie's outcome, they were able to create a world themed on its locations and atmosphere, featuring a replica of the movie's Haywood Ranch, for example. Numerous activities are in store, such as the possibility for users to interact with other players, as well as to play mini-games, interact with elements in the environment, play music, ride a motorcycle or be sucked up by a menacing cloud.

The movie tells the story of the residents of a small California town who witness alien apparitions and who try to capture evidence of what they see. "It was important to create a unique audience experience for 'Nope' that celebrates Jordan Peele's innovative filmmaking and ethos," said Alex Sanger, Universal Pictures' EVP of global digital marketing. "Partnering with Meta and Monkeypaw enabled us to create a one-of-a-kind virtual reality experience in Horizon Worlds."

The virtual world will be accessible via the Quest 2 virtual reality headset for users age 18 years and over, and only in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Interested parties can follow this link to save the world so that it shows up in Horizon Worlds.

"This is a unique opportunity for moviegoers to explore this world with fellow fans, and for our partners to connect with their audiences in innovative ways," said Katie Jones, North America studio partnerships lead at Meta.

Both movies and series are increasingly looking for ways to expand their wider universe through other content. Recently, the Prime Video series "The Boys" launched its own fictional podcast to accompany the show's release on the streaming platform.
