A New York judge has ordered Rudy Giuliani to testify in the Georgia investigation into possible election interference by former President Donald Trump and his allies.
Giuliani, who served as Trump’s personal attorney during the 2020 election, was subpoenaed to testify before the special grand jury earlier this month. His date is set for August 9 after he failed to show up at a hearing in New York to challenge the subpoena.
“There is evidence that [Giuliani’s] appearance and testimony at the hearing was part of a multi-state, coordinated plan by the Trump Campaign to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere,” the subpoena read.
Prominent Trump allies Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) and attorney John Eastman who is credited with being the mastermind behind the legal plan to overturn the election were also subpoenaed.
The news follows Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis‘ Tuesday filing which announced that 16 Republican fake electors are now considered “targets” of the investigation that is centered around a January 2, 2021, phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) in which Trump urged Raffensperger to “find the votes” to keep Georgia red.
Unlike the House select committee’s January 6 investigation that’s main ability is swaying public opinion, Willis’ probe has the power to criminally charge Trump and his allies if they find evidence to support election interference.
