It’s an exciting time to be a New York Mets fan as Jacob deGrom is set to make his first start in 2022.

The two-time Cy Young winner will face off against the Washington Nationals at 7:05 p.m. Eastern time.

DeGrom’s return comes after he was forced to miss more than half the season already due to a stress reaction in his shoulder that he suffered in spring training.

However, that isn’t the only injury that the right-hander has dealt with.

In 2021, deGrom sustained a series of injuries including in his arm, back, lat and forearm areas.

It was a frustrating year for deGrom, who only appeared in 15 games – commanding a ludicrous 1.08 earned runs against average (ERA).

He last appeared in a game on July 7, 2021.

During deGrom’s four rehab starts in the minors, he registered a 2.84 ERA with 21 strikeouts.

While his last rehab start didn’t go as planned (where he allowed four runs), he threw 67 pitches.

Also, deGrom consistently hit between 100 and 101 miles per hour (mph) on the radar gun.

DeGrom tonight will face a National’s lineup without top players in Juan Soto and Josh Bell, who were both dealt.

Here are some of the top reactions from MLB fans as deGrom gets set to take the mound for the first time in over a year.

DeGrom will return to a team that is first in the NL East with a 65-37 record that is riding a seven-game winning streak.

In other Mets news today, the team has acquired left-handed-hitting specialist Darin Ruf from the San Francisco Giants and reportedly traded for reliever Mychal Givens from the Chicago Cubs

After this season, deGrom has said that he plans on opting out of his contract – thus making him a free agent.

DeGrom’s base salary is $33.5 million this year.
