MATARAM, KOMPAS.com \- An Israeli-born Portuguese trekker died after falling about 150 meters through a slope when taking a selfie at the peak of Mount Rinjani in Indonesia’s West Nusa Tenggara province on Aug. 19.

It took four days to evacuate the body of Boaz Tan Anam due to unpredictable weather and heavy terrain.

“Unpredictable weather and steep terrain made the evacuation process harder,” said Nanang Sigit, head of the Mataram search and rescue agency on Monday, Aug. 22.

The search and rescue team used ropes during the evacuation process and carried the body down the mountain.

The body was then brought to a police hospital for an autopsy.

Previously, it was reported that the trekker slipped and fell down the peak of Mount Rinjani on Friday at 5:30 local time. He slipped off the northwest slope overlooking Lake Segara Anak when taking a selfie.

A joint search and rescue team prepared all the equipment needed for the evacuation. They set up a temporary evacuation center at the office of Mount Rinjani National Park Agency in Sembalun.
