Defeated N.C. Rep. Madison Cawthorn Buys $1.2 Million House In Florida Near Mar-A-Lago

DALLAS, TEXAS - JULY 09: U.S. Rep Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) speaks during the Conservative Political Action Conference CPAC held at the Hilton Anatole on July 09, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. CPAC began in 1974, and is a conference that brings together...

Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-North Carolina) reportedly bought a home worth more than a million dollars in Florida, in an apparent departure from his home state after he lost the Republican primary earlier this year.

Cawthorn leaves office in January after a controversial term representing North Carolina’s 11th district. He lost the primaries to state Sen. Chuck Edwards in May despite being endorsed by former president Donald Trump. Edwards ultimately won the election in November, maintaining the seat controlled by GOP.

With the new house — a $1.2 million three-bedroom home in Cape Coral — Cawthorn will be located three hours from Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s home in Florida.

He was last seen on Tuesday at Trump’s announcement of his new bid for the White House in 2024.

Cawthorn’s time on Capitol Hill was marked by a number of scandals. The 27-year-old politician who was once considered a rising Republican star once claimed he had been invited to orgies on the Capitol, then admitted he had exaggerated the story when pushed by House minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California).

Cawthorne still faces a House ethics investigation about an “inappropriate” relationship with a male aide.
