UK kids are becoming financially smarter and more entrepreneurial, as they learn to rely less on pocket money from parents who, in turn, have been hit by the continuing rise in the cost of living. More children are turning to traditional income-generating schemes, such as babysitting and doing extra chores for grown ups, while others have come with sparkling alternatives, such as glitter tattoo-making. According to a survey of more than 300,000 children by the NatWest Rooster Pocket Money Index 2023/2024, earning, spending and saving behaviour among children is changing faster than ever. Child...

Governments have given the final rubber stamp to new rules on the functioning on the EU’s internal market for electricity, which aim to limit the dramatic price surges and windfall profits seen during the 2022 energy crisis. Under a revised market regulation, the essential model re...

Earlier in April, almost all member states signed the declaration of La Hulpe, together with the EU institutions and the Belgian presidency, as a strong signal of the importance of social policy and the European Pillar of Social Rights. But just days ago, the European Parliament ratified a new set of fiscal rules that the Council agreed upon last December, which signals a troubling return toward austerity measures. The General Confederation of Greek Labor, GSEE, led the strikes to demand the restoration of collective bargaining rights that were axed more than a decade ago during a severe financial crisis. Unemployment hit a record high of more than 27% in 2013, and has been dropping in the years since. However, it crept up to 11% in February, its highest level since August 2023. The skyrocketing prices of goods are the top priority for Greek voters, according to all polls ahead of this year's all-important European Parliament elections. Greece's average growth rate is more than 2%, one of the highest in the Eurozone, and the government is praised for its fiscal policies by all European institutions. However, the measures taken against inflation in the food category don't seem to have an impact for consumers. The Hellenic Statistical Authority has just reported that inflation in the food category stood at 5.3% in March, up from 3.1% in February. Figures like this mean ...
