Police in western Germany conducted searches targeting 12 suspected drug dealers. A total of 14 properties on the border between the states of Lower Saxony and North Rhine Westphalia were investigated, a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday morning. French police have detained 1,738 people in numerous raids on the drug scene across the country in recent days. "We will continue the anti-drug operations," France's Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced on Saturday afternoon in Saint-Denis near Paris. Drug trafficking is to be eradicated, he added. German police on Wednesday reported an unexpected discovery of 68 kilograms of drugs during a search of a flat in the city of Kassel. Police gained access to the home of a 61-year-old tenant with a court order. They initially only found small quantities of hashish and marijuana in his flat. Australians spent some $12.4 billion Australian ($8.2 billion US) in a year on cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and methylamphetamine, according to an analysis of waste water across the country by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) published on Wednesday.
