One of the nation’s top linebackers will come off the board later this summer. Jesup (Ga.) Wayne County four-star linebacker Tavion Wallace tells On3’s Chad Simmons that he will announce his commitment at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on July 15. Earlier this week, Wallace announced the five schools to make his final list. He will choose from one of these programs on July 15: Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and LSU. Wallace has also scheduled four official visits: Arkansas (May 31), Georgia (June 7), Florida (June 14) and Florida State (June 21). “It is about feeling like a family for me,” Walla...

Florida State is in contention to be a top-eight seed in the NCAA Tournament. On3’s Jonathan Wagner currently has the Seminoles there in his Field of 64 projections, potentially not having to leave Tallahassee on the road to Omaha. Something Link Jarrett knows is important but the job is not quite done. Jarrett says to be a top-eight seed, teams must play well from start to finish. Florida State certainly looks the part right now, sporting a 34-9 overall record while in second place in the ACC Coastal standings. But there are still a few tough games remaining on the schedule and to fully earn ...

Florida State had been without sophomore right-handed pitcher Ben Barrett since March 2 due to injury, but the talented arm revved back up this weekend and made a brief appearance against Duke. Very brief. Barrett threw just two pitches before exiting the game, with coach Link Jarrett being extra careful with him coming off the extended absence. “It just didn’t look great. You’re talking about Barrett, right?” Jarrett said, meeting with local media on Thursday. “Yeah, the velocity is on these scoreboards basically everywhere we play now. So when we’re expecting ‘A’ and we get ‘B’ it was a litt...

Jermaine Johnson and Jordan Travis shared one year in Tallahassee. Now add the Meadowlands. The two former Florida State stars are teammates, again, but this time with the New York Jets. And Johnson had something to do with the Jets using a fifth-round pick to select Travis last Saturday during the final session of the NFL Draft. New York possibly reached for Travis, considering the quarterback is recovering from a broken leg. Johnson wasn’t bothered by the Travis injury when he messaged Jets coach Robert Saleh to talk up the former Seminole. “I mean just knowing (Travis), I texted coach Saleh...

Florida State’s Jamir Watkins has entered his name into the transfer portal per On3’s Pete Nakos. Per Nakos, he has also done so with a ‘do not contact’ tag on his entry. Watkins just finished his one and only season with the Seminoles after three years at VCU. That leaves him with one season of eligibility left with whatever program, which will be the third of his career, that he eventually decides on. Watkins has appeared in 94 games in his career for the ‘Noles and Rams. He would have more on his total had he not missed all of his sophomore season due to a knee injury, which is when he reds...

Florida State three-star quarterback commit Tramell Jones hasn’t drawn some of the same accolades as his fellow finalists at this summer’s upcoming Elite 11 Finals. But the Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin continues to put together strong performances on the field — both on Friday nights and in camp settings. Competing against a number of higher-ranked quarterbacks last month at the Elite 11 Regional in Oxford, Mississippi, he outshined them all. And along with that came an invite to the most prestigious passing camp in the country. According to Brian Stumpf, Elite 11’s head of events, Jones was w...

Earlier this year, Florida State looked to be the clear leader for Leesburg (Va.) Lee County four-star running back Ousmane Kromah. But over the past few months, other schools appear to have gained ground on the Seminoles, including in-state Georgia, as well as Florida and Miami. Mike Norvell and Co. will now have a fight on their hands over the next few months, according to On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons. “If I had to truly describe his recruitment right now on the 1st of May, I’d say it’s a little bit more open the last six months, 10 months leading up to this moment,” Simmons said ...

Former Florida State quarterback Marcus Outzen died Tuesday evening in Tampa at age 46 from complications associated with a rare immune deficiency disorder. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Outzen was recently diagnosed with HLH (hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis). The condition led to his death. Outzen is best known for his stint filling in for starting quarterback Chris Weinke late in the 1998 season. He started and won games against Wake Forest and Florida to help Florida State advance to the BCS Championship that year. The win over No. 4 Florida pushed Florida State’s home winning s...
