Polish prosecutors have ended an investigation into human skeletons found at a site where German dictator Adolf Hitler and other Nazi leaders spent time during World War II because their advanced decay made it impossible to determine the cause of death, a spokesman said Monday. The remains were found on February 24 at Wolf's Lair, which served as Hitler's chief headquarters from 1941-44 when the area was part of Germany. Hidden in deep woods, the compound of about 200 Nazi bunkers and military barracks was the site of the failed assassination attempt on Hitler by Colonel Claus Stauffenberg on ...

Archaeologists have unearthed an ancient Greek helmet from burial mounds in southern Croatia, shedding new light on the history of the Illyrians, a tribal people from the eastern Adriatic and the Balkans. Eighty years ago, on April 21, 1944, France decreed that women would have the right to vote in postwar elections. At the time, France remained under German occupation, and General Charles de Gaulle was leading a provisional government. With other priorities taking precedence, French women did not actually cast their ballot for the first time until April 1945. After more than 150 years of agitating for this fundamental right of citizenship, French women finally secured the vote. This victory came rather late, especially considering the promising proclamations of women such as Olympe de Gouges d...

Scientists in the UK have found evidence that microplastics are contaminating archaeological soil samples. The discovery has the potential to upend the way historical remains are preserved. Tiny particles of microplastics were discovered seven metres underground in samples dating from the first or early second century. They were first excavated in the 1980s. “This feels like an important moment, confirming what we should have expected: that what were previously thought to be pristine archaeological deposits, ripe for investigation, are in fact contaminated with plastics, and that this includes...

Ballads were all the rage, and we’re not talking about Stairway to Heaven. These were songs sung straight from the mouths of balladeers: musicians who went from place to place setting lyrics to music for the public’s listening pleasure. The tunes they played were often already well-known. But instead of coming up with the lyrics themselves, these itinerant performers might have just bought a new sheet of lyrics from a budding songwriter. And so the commercial music market as we know it was born. Universal Music Group threatens to pull millions of songs from TikTok in rights disputeThis is acco...

It is said that imitation is the best and most sincere form of flattery. Just ask Javier Olivares, co-creator of 'El Ministerio del Tiempo'.
