The cause of the blast is currently unconfirmed, with a US official confirming it was not part of US military operations. The Kalsu military facility in the city of Babylon is used by Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and holds its chief of staff there. The Iran-aligned Houthis said they targeted a British ship and a number of US frigates in the Red Sea, while in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean it had attacked two Israeli vessels heading to Israeli ports.
