Despite a host of weather obstacles and a delay that lasted over 24 hours, Nebraska and Iowa completed their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. Will Bolt’s Huskers locked up a series win in run-rule fashion by claiming a 12-2 victory after the resumption of Saturday’s suspended game. Nebraska blasted three home-runs and Josh Caron pieced together a phenomenal day at the plate finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs. The Hawkeyes answered with a dominant showing from Brody Brecht. He and reliever Jack Young combined to strike out the Huskers a season-high 15 times. Ste...

Brett Sears didn’t have his A-game for the first time in 2024. But on Friday night, Nebraska baseball found a way to win anyway over the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Huskers claimed the series opener by way of a six-run rally over the game’s final five innings. Sears finished with four runs allowed on eight hits, his highest totals of the season, and lasted a season-low five innings. Nebraska’s bullpen filled the void and the team’s top bats met the moment with clutch hits in the late innings despite some early missed opportunities. Will Bolt’s Huskers have their first win over Iowa in a series opener s...

Just 15 games remain in Nebraska baseball’s regular season. An incredibly strong Husker start to the season featuring extra-inning wins and critical late-inning plays has been met with a mystifying midseason slump. NU (25-13, 8-4) welcomes Iowa (23-15, 9-6) this weekend for three of its final eight games at Haymarket Park. Head coach Will Bolt said the Huskers’ sights are set on a late-season push. “Any good team, you’re gonna have moments in the season where the breaks aren’t going your way, where you are not winning games that maybe you won earlier in the season, but great teams always find ...

One step forward, two steps back. So goes Nebraska’s rough month of April. Saturday marked another new low in a 11-2 loss to Maryland (25-15, 6-8) which was the Huskers’ (24-12, 7-4) largest margin of defeat this season. Nebraska keeps track of what it quantifies as grit statistics during games. Nebraska head coach Will Bolt said he looked at the team’s board midway through the game and saw one 3-2 count win, one big hit and one time in which a runner went first to third. Meanwhile, the Huskers failed to make Maryland starter Omar Melendez remotely uncomfortable. He pitched a Terrapin-career h...

It hasn’t been close to Nebraska baseball’s ideal start to April. Right-handed starting pitcher Mason McConnaughey’s rise has been one of the bright spots. The reigning Big Ten Pitcher of the Week knows he and his teammates are being tested. “It’s the game,” McConnaughey said. “It’s trying to send us a message right now and it’s really trying to see how we respond. Whether we stay connected as a team, whether we have each other’s back still because I have 100% confidence in each and every arm out of our bullpen, out of our starting rotation and same with the bats. I trust them to go in and do ...

Will Bolt believes Nebraska baseball hasn’t reached its ceiling. “This team is yet to peak,” Bolt said. “I believe that wholeheartedly. You’re starting to see us play a little bit better defense. The hitting has been a little come and go. The pitching has been pretty consistent. I think if we can continue to just get better, that’s going to be the goal for this team and obviously this weekend is huge.” The Huskers have lost three of the last five and now turn their attention back to conference play and a roughly 1,280-mile trip Piscataway, New Jersey. Rutgers is next on the docket and the Scar...

A slow start, 10 runners left on base and a ninth-inning grand slam spelled Nebraska baseball’s first Big Ten loss of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Huskers (22-7, 5-1) quickly fell behind 5-0 and despite some stability provided by left-hander Will Walsh, failed to muster the clutch hits necessary to complete a comeback in a 9-3 defeat. Ohio State salvaged the weekend after losing the first two games 3-0 and 7-3. Head coach Will Bolt found his squad chasing runs early for the second time this week. “Ohio state played great today but I’m also very frustrated with our killer instinct,” Bolt...
