The North Carolina Tar Heels have been working to round out their roster over the spring but have had some trouble finding depth at one position in particular on offense: running back. Tar Heels head coach Mack Brown is all too familiar with the struggles of bringing in talent, specifically at that position. He recently used an example from his past to articulate his current struggles—a story that Texas Longhorns fans aren’t too fond of. In the mid-2000s, Brown built Texas up, making them a contender for the national championship. There was an opportunity for him to create arguably the greates...

North Carolina has had a pair of quarterbacks working this spring in Max Johnson, the transfer from Texas A&M, and Conner Harrell, who just finished his redshirt freshman year with the Tar Heels. They’re different players in their own right, which would mean different approaches for whichever one eventually wins the position battle. Still, Mack Brown said after the first portion of spring practice that it’s more about preference than tailoring an offense fully to one quarterback or the other. He wants to know what those two would rather do or throw to set them up for their best success, regard...

The Patriots quickly made Drake Maye their newest franchise quarterback, taking him No. 3 in the NFL Draft. But at least two teams tried to trade for the pick. ESPN reported Tuesday that both the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants made offers to move up in last Thursday’s draft. The Vikings were desperate for a quarterback, given that they lost starter Kirk Cousins in free agency to the Atlanta Falcons. They owned two first round picks — at No. 11 and 23 — and wanted to package them for one really good selection. Meanwhile, the Giants were kicking the tires on taking a quarterback, alth...

Rutgers transfer center Clifford Omoruyi is set to visit the North Carolina Tar Heels on Thursday, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. An addition like Omoruyi would be welcome for the Tar Heels going into next season. He is currently the No. 9 ranked player in the transfer portal. He averaged 10.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game this season for Rutgers this past season. Omoruyi was a key cog in the Scarlet Knights’ breaking their March Madness drought in 2021, making it to the Round of 32. Rutgers also made it to the NCAA Tournament in 2022, aided by the big man. However, they only m...

It’s a new era in New England, with Bill Belichick no longer coaching the team and North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye being selected third overall to be the next face of the franchise. During the NFL Draft this year, Bill Belichick managed to stay involved and was on the set of the Pat McAfee Show when Drake Maye was selected. There, he shared some thoughts on the pick, including the comparison that Maye made for himself to Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen. “I think that’s certainly a top need for them,” Bill Belichick said. “It’s quarterback, tackle, and wide receiver. So, this is one of the ...

Drake Maye was the third quarterback taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. From one Tar Heel to another, though, he’s the best one in the class at the position this year. Sam Howell, a quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks now who also played college football at North Carolina, tweeted about Maye following the New England Patriots’ selection of him at No. 3 overall. He expressed his pride in his former teammate while also naming him as the top quarterback from this draft. “Best QB in the draft! Couldn’t be more proud! @DrakeMaye2,” Howell wrote on Twitter. These two crossed paths over in Chapel Hill for...

Patriots’ rookie quarterback Drake Maye is lucky enough to come from a family full of insanely talented athletes. And they also don’t mind cracking jokes with him from time to time. Maye recently had his NFL dreams come true on Thursday night, after he was selected No. 3 overall in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. And his brothers decided to send him a funny video message before the draft. They called him a “pretty boy,” overrated, and a bi###.” It’s good that Drake Maye still has his sense of humor about him, because being a starting quarterback in the National Football League, he’s goi...
