F1 reportedly looking into points for top 12 finishers
Formula One is reportedly looking into awarding the top 12 drivers of a grand prix with championship points from next year onwards instead of the top 10 as at the moment. The Formula One Commission is said to be looking into the issue at a meeting later on Thursday. The commission includes all 10 teams, the F1 rights holders and the ruling body FIA. The current system with points for 10 of the 20 drivers makes it very difficult for smaller teams to get into the points, with the top 10 often locked out by the two drivers of top sides Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren and Aston Martin.
