A US regulator voted on Thursday to restore "net neutrality" rules which prevent internet providers from favouring certain websites over others. The move will bring back "a national standard to ensure the internet is fast, open, and fair," the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said on Thursday. Ukraine estimates that it will need $4.67 billion (€4.38 billion) over 10 years to repair an overlooked but expensive casualty in the ongoing Russian invasion: its telecommunications network. Jan Ellsberg, a former Vice-President of Ericsson, has been elected the new director general of standardisation body ETSI, following a vote at the General Assembly today (16 April), an ETSI spokesperson confirmed to Euronews. Ellsberger, a Swedish national, is also a former vice president of industry development at Chinese tech company Huawei in Germany, and now works as an advisor to a consultancy firm. Vodafone has agreed to sell its Italian business to Bern-based telecommunications firm Swisscom for €8 billion in cash, according to a statement released on Friday. Swisscom will merge Vodafone Italia with its existing business Fastweb to create Italy's second-biggest fixed-line broadband operator, behind TIM.
