A stunning timelapse video shows a volcano in southwestern Iceland erupting with the Northern lights accompanying it. The volcano has been sending lava towards the nearby fishing town of Grindavik, about 50 kilometres southwest of Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital. Iceland, which sits above a volcanic hot spot in the North Atlantic, sees regular eruptions and is highly experienced at dealing with them.

A volcano in Iceland that has erupted multiple times since December continued to spew out lava on Tuesday. The crater concerned is located a few kilometres northeast of the town of Grindavik. A volcano on an island in the Galápagos could threaten the survival of the last known survivor of a species of giant tortoise.
