Uncanny X-Men #185 is one of those issues that every longtime X-Men nerd knows, like Giant-Size X-Men #1 (the introduction of Nightcrawler, Colossus, Storm), or Uncanny X-Men #4 (the debut of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants), or The New Mutants #87 (the first appearance of Cable). In Uncanny #185, anti-mutant government stooge Henry Peter Gyrich tries to use a mutant-power neutralizer on Rogue, but accidentally zaps her teammate Storm instead. The neutralizer is totally effective; Storm loses her ability to manipulate weather, seemingly forever. Subsequent issues follow Storm through an identi...

The title of this week’s episode ofX-Men ’97 — “Tolerance is Extinction – Part 1” — actually merges the titles of multiple X-Men storylines. Bastion himself appeared in a ’90s comic story called “Operation: Zero Tolerance.” And several years before that there was also “X-Tinction Agenda.” That’s just one of the many Easter eggs, little details, and hidden references you might have missed in the latest episode of X-Men ’97. For all of them, check out our video below. We’ll look back at the episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series that introduced Nimrod, and how Bishop, Wolverine, and Storm all pl...

There are three episodes left of the first season of the eXcellent X-Men ’97. All three tell a single story in three parts, titled “Tolerance Is Extinction.” It’s already been quite a momentous season for the X-Men, with Professor X’s “death” and reappearance in deep space, Magneto joining the team and becoming its leader in Xavier’s absence, Storm’s loss and restoration of her powers, and most shockingly, the death of Gambit. A new and “final” trailer for the season just debuted and while a lot of its footage comes from episodes that have already debuted, it does feature some new scenes — inc...

Well, that was one heck of an X-Men ’97 episode. This week’s adventure ended tragically, with a cliffhanger that might have involved the deaths of two different X-Men. (We’re just going to hold our breath until next Wednesday and hope for the best.) It also drew on a ton of classic X-Men comics, and carried forward long-standing storylines from the old X-Men: The Animated Series. For the full details on what stories this week’s episode was drawn from, and all of the Easter eggs, references, and little things you might have missed, check out our latest Marvel video below. It takes you through X...

X-Men ’97has adapted some classic X-Men stories already, including the iconic “Inferno” crossover story that transformed Madelyne Pryor into the Goblin Queen. They’ve also introduced little Nathan Summers and sent him off into the future, where he’ll eventually become Cable. It also adapted Uncanny X-Men #200, which was the trial of Magneto for his past crimes after he decided to reform and take over leadership of the X-Men after the “death” of Professor Xavier. But there’s a pretty big issue that comes with this. In our latest Marvel video, we take a look at the first episodes of X-Men ’97, e...

You knew that X-Men ’97was going to have references to the old X-Men animated series from the 1990s. After all, the new show is a sequel to the old one, and imagines what would have happened if Fox hadn’t canceled the series and it had continued on adapting classic Marvel comics to the small screen (and also looked a heck of a lot better than the old show did way back when). But now that the first two X-Men ’97 episodes are here, you might be shocked by just how many Easter eggs, little references, and hidden callbacks to X-Men: The Animated Series (and loads of Uncanny X-Men comics) the new s...

The new X-Men ’97 animated series coming to Disney+ next week isn’t just an homage to the old cartoon from the 1990s — it’s a direct continuation from it, featuring some of the same voice cast and Larry Houston, one of the producers and directors of X-Men: The Animated Series is a consulting producer on the show, and you’ll recognizes the voices of Beast (George Buza), Rogue (Lenore Zann), Storm (Alison Sealy-Smith), and more in this update. A new video from Marvel explains that this is not a show that draws inspiration from the ’90s series; it is, “literally a next-day continuation” of the ol...

Just days before the show is set to premiere on Disney+, Marvel has reportedly “fired” X-Men ’97’ creator Beau DeMayo. Thus far, neither Marvel nor DeMayo have commented on the news. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Marvel and DeMayo suddenly parted ways” early last week. “His company email was deactivated and cast and crew were informed he was no longer on the project,” they added. “DeMayo’s Instagram account, once a source for X-Men updates, was deleted. No reason for the firing was given.” The new series is a long-anticipated continuation of the X-Men: The Animated Series of the 1990s,...
