Five days after pitching a no-hitter, Nebraska baseball's Jackson Brockett was showered with accolades Monday. He also enjoyed a special date with history. The junior lefthander from Omaha was named national pitcher of the week by D1Baseball and Perfect Game, and he was also named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week. Brockett's gem came Wednesday night in the Huskers' 8-0 win over Kansas State in Lincoln. He struck out 12 batters and walked two in his first start of the season. It was only the second nine-inning individual no-hitter in Nebraska program history. The first Husker to pull off the feat wa...

In 1927 a Hastings, Nebraska man named Edwin Perkins (1899-1961) invented a new and economical drink that consumers could make in their own homes. All that was needed was a pitcher, one of his powdered flavor packets (grape, strawberry, cherry, lemon-lime or orange) and some sugar and water. The tasty new drink was called Kool-Aide (later changed to Kool-Aid). Perkins' invention became a worldwide success. So how does his invention fit into a column about Nebraska football? Because Husker fans have been tempted to drink the Kool-Aid especially after last month's Husker Spring Game. Should Husk...

Antonio Branch Jr. is a four-star 2025 defensive back from Miami who took an official visit to Nebraska for the Huskers' Red-White spring game. The 6-foot-2 prospect from Booker T. Washington High School came away impressed. “The visit was awesome,” he told HuskerMax. “I really enjoyed it way more than I expected. They made it feel like the crib up there.” This visit indeed helped the Huskers in his recruitment. Branch explains why. “For sure it helped Nebraska because I’ve never been up there before and for me to go up there once and like it as much as I did, I had to put them top 4.” On the ...

Nebraska baseball remained in the hunt for a Big Ten Conference title with a series victory at Minnesota this weekend. The Huskers topped the Gophers in two games, dropping Sunday's finale. NU is now 30-16 on the season, including 12-6 in the Big Ten. Minnesota is 21-21 with a league record of 7-11. Illinois leads the league at 13-5. Nebraska won a relatively high scoring affair Friday night, thanks in part to Dylan Carey's two-run home run in the seventh inning. That gave NU the lead a lead that wouldn't be given back as the Huskers won 10-7. The series was clinched Saturday with a 7-3 Husker...

Several weeks ago when I initially contemplated the subject of this article, I planned on tempering fans' expectations. Let's face it, Husker fans are well-known for ingesting their offseason Kool-Aid through an IV and have a reputation for anointing players as the second coming before they've earned it on the field. I'd heard about Dylan Raiola raising the eyebrows of scouts who were in attendance for Nebraska's Pro Day on March 20, after he'd been on campus for only two months and hadn't even started spring practices with the team yet. I'd talked with a couple people with connections to the ...
