Berlin (dpa) — Do you own a Husqvarna robot lawnmower? If so, you may soon be able to use it to mow down demons in the cult game "Doom".

The Swedish outdoor power products manufacturer has announced that a software update for its NERA range is turning the robot lawnmowers into games consoles.

Owners will be able to play the game using the mower’s onboard display and controls from April 9 to September 9 in 2024 after updating via the Automower Connect app.

The "Doom" update will be available in 36 countries, most of them in Europe but also including Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. On September 9 a software update will remove the game.

Husqvarna already trialled this at a 2023 gaming event where it organised a “Doom” tournament on its robotic lawnmowers.

“Doom” is considered a milestone in the first-person shooter genre, partly because the 3D graphics of the game were impressive for the time. The title celebrated its 30th birthday last year.

Getting the original version of "Doom" to work on devices that have nothing to do with gaming has become a trend and the game has been seening running on printers, digital cameras and even cash machines.
