'Had an absolute nightmare': Stan Collymore says West Ham player's form has dropped off a cliff

West Ham United on loan midfielder Kalvin Phillips has just been absolutely slaughtered by Stan Collymore.

Stan Collymore has been speaking about Kalvin Phillips, after the West Ham loanee was left out of Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.

The 28-year-old joined Manchester City from Leeds in the summer of 2022 for around £42 million (ESPN), but that move didn’t work out one little bit.

Phillips then joined West Ham on loan in the January transfer window, and things have gone from bad to worse for him.

He’s so far off the pace both physically and mentally it seems, and as things stand it looks like David Moyes has had an absolute stinker by signing him.

The fact that he’s been warming Man City’s bench for the past 18 months has clearly hindered him, and Collymore has alluded to exactly that…

Stan Collymore criticises Kalvin Phillips

The former player turned pundit has been speaking to Caught Offside about Phillips’ recent fall from grace.

And Collymore questioned whether the 28-year-old should have left Leeds in the first place 18 months ago:

I don’t think anyone is really surprised the 28-year-old hasn’t been included. His form has dropped off a cliff since he joined West Ham at the start of the year. He’s had an absolute nightmare. He has a token treble but there is no way he’s getting back into that England squad in time for the Euros in the summer, so was it really worth it? What would he rather have? — A treble of winners’ medals that he didn’t really contribute toward, or the chance to represent England, and potentially win the country’s first piece of major international silverware since 1966?”

I have to agree with Stan here, and it’s not too often I’ve said that in the past! Phillips may have a treble to his name but at what cost?

I’m sure that he would either stay at Leeds, or join West Ham if given the chance to go back to the summer of 2022.

Kalvin Phillips has clearly jeopardised his chances of glory with England by joining Manchester City, and Stan Collymore hit the nail on the head by asking him, ‘was it worth it’?

I truly believe that Kalvin would answer no to that question, if anyone ever asks him.
