Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of midfielders ahead of the summer transfer window.
With Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg‘s future at Spurs appearing increasingly uncertain, the Lilywhites are likely to look for a replacement in the summer.
And while Conor Gallagher has been heavily linked with a switch to Tottenham, a different player has apparently emerged as a prime contender for a Spurs move.
The player in question is Atalanta’s Ederson, a player whose name has also been doing the rounds – albeit less than Gallagher’s – in recent months.
Now, according to GiveMeSport, Tottenham are now ‘totally convinced’ that the Brazilian talent would be ideal for them.
The report claims Spurs are ‘certain’ that Ederson is capable of making the grade in the Premier League after tracking his progress over the last two seasons.
Apparently, ‘dramatic improvements in his game’ have led to Tottenham seriously considering a bid for him at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
In addition, Ange Postecoglou has reportedly been particularly impressed by Ederson’s ability to regain possession and quickly get the ball to Atalanta’s attackers.
Furthermore, the 24-year-old’s wide-ranging skillset would make him a seamless fit into the Tottenham man’s style of play, added the report.
Tottenham convinced Ederson would be a success for Spurs
It’s great to see such a definitive report – as far as speculation goes – with regards to Spurs’ interest in a summer target.
Atalanta’s Ederson – not to be confused with his namesake at Manchester City – has enjoyed a swift rise to prominence since arriving in Europe.
He joined Italian club Salernitana from Brazil’s Corinthians in January 2022, and within six months, he was on the way to Atalanta for around £18million.
In terms of current price tag, Calciomercato recently claimed that the Bergamaschi are requesting a fee of £30million.
Tottenham aren’t alone in the race for Ederson though. He has also been linked with Newcastle, though at this moment in time, you’d fancy Spurs to have the edge in a race for his services.
Tottenham are currently fifth in the table and pushing for a Champions League place, while the Magpies are 13 points behind Spurs in 10th spot.
