Report: Newcastle looking at signing £70m player regarded as one of the best youngsters in world football

Newcastle United are now said to be targeting a summer move for a player considered one of the best young talents in world football.

Eddie Howe and his team will still be rocked by the Sven Botman injury news right now, a player who is so crucial to their long-term vision.

It’s torrid luck, but ultimately something that will need to be moved on from, and perhaps something that will influence the club’s summer plans.

The financial situation is thought to be slightly restrictive right now, but there still remains confidence that Newcastle can improve their squad in the off-season.

Perhaps avoiding a departure for either Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak will be the biggest priority – the two other players who are seen as crucial to the club moving forwards.

But with that in mind, a new report from SportsLens has claimed that Newcastle are now pushing ahead with interest in Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande.

The report states that Newcastle were becoming increasingly interested even before Sven Botman’s injury was announced, with the club keen to boost their defensive options regardless.

Newcastle interested in summer move for exciting young talent Ousmane Diomande

The information claims that Howe may find it difficult to add two defenders given the club’s financial situation, but seemed to think a move for Diomande was viable.

Diomande has long been considered a gem at Sporting, previously ranked the fifth best young talent in the world.

And whilst a release clause of £70m might seem a little steep, a move could definitely prove good value with time.

At 20-years-old, Diomande has caught the attention of a host of Europe’s top teams including Arsenal, who have been scouting the centre-back regularly.

Perhaps Diomande could take a long-term position alongside Botman once he is fully fit again in the new season.

And whilst it’s all pretty hypothetical for now, Newcastle fans should be excited if the club decide to pursue the young talent this summer, a player destined for the top of the game.

All that being said, both Arsenal and Newcastle are said to be competing to sign a potential free agent this summer.
