Report: 21-year-old left Man United staff stunned after how he performed on loan last season

Manchester United staff were left somewhat surprised by how Amad Diallo got on during his time out on loan last season.

Amad Diallo, of course, has rightly received a lot of praise after scoring the winning goal at the end of that incredible FA Cup tie between Manchester United and Liverpool before the international break.

Amad was sent off for a second yellow card after removing his shirt while celebrating the goal. But it seems safe to say that the 21-year-old has secured his place in United folklore with the winner.

It has been a frustrating season for the Ivory Coast international. Gary Neville recently expressed his surprise that Amad has not played more in recent weeks.

The youngster missed much of the early part of the season due to injury. So he has needed some time to get up to speed.

Manchester United surprised by how Amad Diallo did at Sunderland

But United fans will be hoping that Amad’s goal proves to be a turning point in his Old Trafford career. Certainly, the club have had glimpses of what he can do.

Amad spent the majority of last season out on loan with Sunderland. It came off the back of a difficult time at Rangers, where he was only able to show glimpses of his quality.

But his time at the Stadium of Light was an overwhelming success, with Amad scoring 14 goals as the Black Cats reached the play-offs.

In fact, it came as a shock to some at Manchester United how well Amad did at Sunderland, according to a report from The Athletic. They expected that he would do well, but were not expecting him to be so impressive.

Big opportunity for the attacker

Amad may perhaps be one of the players who benefits from United enduring an underwhelming season. Of course, Champions League football is still the goal for Erik ten Hag‘s side. And they would love to win the FA Cup.

But there is no question that United have regressed this season. So it would perhaps benefit ten Hag to have one eye on the future.

Kobbie Mainoo has come in and been exceptional. And he has secured his place in United’s future plans.

Amad may now be one to watch with positions up for grabs ahead of next season.
