America’s Next Top Model Giselle never planned to go on the show

ANTM star Giselle Samson was working as a Disneyland dancer when she was approached for casting, and four days later, was flying to New York, had signed a contract, and was ready to join season 1.

When filming begun, the crew were “in her face 24/7,” where they had “no privacy at all” and were given microphones to wear.

Giselle said: “They will catch the audio, even in the closed door bathrooms.”

Cameras started shooting from 6am, with Giselle claiming they “made it look like we were constantly working out at 5am,” when really they only trained twice throughout the entirety of the season.

Tyra Banks gave her wild advice

ANTM judge Tyra Banks gave Giselle some un-aired advice which led the reality star to “self-deprecate herself”. She said: “They didn’t air this… Tyra tells me, ‘You need to learn to humble yourself'”.

The now-business owner continued: “She said, ‘Otherwise America is not going to like you’. I started self-deprecating myself, so that way I seemed humble in my mind. She said I was fishing for compliments.”

At the time, Giselle was just 18 years old, making her the youngest in the competition. She wasn’t paid the way the contestants have been in recent years but did “land cool things,” like meeting Michael Jackson!

ANTM’s ‘disturbing’ runway shoots

Giselle, who had scoliosis, came from a ballet background and so she admits she already had body dysmorphia before going on season 1.

“I was always comparing my body to others,” she told us.

“I was crying when they had me lift my shirt up and do a runway walk, I always felt deformed and not good enough. The swimsuit photoshoots were disturbing for me personally,” Giselle continued.

Giselle told Reality Titbit about how she “looks back on everything now and realises she has mental health problems” from the show.

The star says: “My storyline broke me down as a character, I was ‘a girl with no confidence’.”

She left “feeling like she didn’t have self-confidence and lost a lot of herself,” admitting it took her a long time to get herself back together.

Now, Giselle is the business owner of jewellery store Kiss The World.
