Arsenal could sign 'fabulous' striker for £40m, just five months after his club demanded £100m - journalist

A striker who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal could soon be available for a bargain fee.

The Gunners are having a fine season under Mikel Arteta. They are currently the leaders in the Premier League and have a great chance of making it into the last four of the Champions League.

Everything is going to plan for Arsenal so far, and if things continue to go their way in the next month or so, they will end the season with a couple of big trophies.

Irrespective of what happens, Arsenal will need to strengthen their squad in the summer, and Arteta is said to be keen on signing a new striker.

Arsenal could sign Ivan Toney for a bargain fee this summer

Ivan Toney has been on Arsenal’s radar for months now.

The Gunners would’ve probably tried to sign him last year, but the Englishman was hit with a ban that saw him miss the first half of the season.

Mikel Arteta‘s side were heavily linked with a move to sign Toney in the January transfer window. Some people claimed that he was their top target, but a move failed to materialise back then.

Toney will enter the final year of his contract this summer. There is a big chance he will leave Brentford, and Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has shared the latest on the situation.

It has been claimed that Arsenal are still interested in signing Toney, but the Gunners face competition from two other English clubs – Chelsea and West Ham United.

The most important part of Plettenberg’s update is Brentford’s asking price to sell Toney.

Back in November, just five months ago, Sky Sports reported that the Bees want an eye-watering £100 million to let their star striker go.

Now, Plettenberg has revealed that he will be available this summer for a fee between £30 million and £40 million.

That would be a bargain for a ‘fabulous‘ Premier League-proven striker like Toney.

What Ivan Toney has done that could cost him a move to Arsenal

Arsenal are arguably the most attractive team in the Premier League right now.

The Gunners have a phenomenal young squad and a world-class manager, and the support they have been receiving at the Emirates Stadium has been out of this world.

Ivan Toney would surely love to join Arsenal this summer, but that move is extremely unlikely to happen because of one key reason.

Chris Wheatley revealed recently that people at Arsenal are not at all happy with Toney’s behaviour recently, and that’s why this move isn’t expected to happen.

“Ivan Toney, it doesn’t look like there is the interest there once was. That has faded a bit,” he said.

“I don’t think his behaviour in certain games has impressed the Arsenal hierarchy, coupled with the fact he’s going to cost a lot of money from Brentford, I don’t think that’s one that’s likely to happen anytime soon.”
