Dougie Freedman could lure free transfer to Crystal Palace this summer, he already lives in London - opinion

This summer, Dougie Freedman has the chance to do something spectacular by bringing a “great” defender to Crystal Palace.

It looks increasingly likely that Crystal Palace will undergo a bit of an overhaul this summer.

Oliver Glasner will be the man driving this change as he won’t be pleased particularly with his centre-back options.

Playing a three-at-the-back formation has left him short in numbers, especially with an injury crisis in the position.

So the chance to sign a player for a free who’s arguably as good if not better than his current choices, would be a real bonus.

So, Dougie Freedman has a job to do this summer, here’s who he should be looking at luring.

Why Crystal Palace should be throwing everything at Tosin Adarabioyo

For Palace with departures in mind this summer, there is one defender who could replace Marc Guehi perfectly this summer, and he’s available for free.

Tosin Adarbioyo is currently playing for Fulham where he has enjoyed a pretty impressive season to date, although due to his contract running down, he’s due a new club.

Here’s how he’s done this season in comparison with the two main current Palace defenders.

From this, it’s clear that Adarabioyo has enjoyed a season similar to the Palace defenders while playing less than Guehi and significantly less than Joachim Andersen.

There’d be next to no drop-off in him replacing either defender and he’d cost nothing, which would be huge considering the potential outgoings that’d almost certainly repopulate the list of most expensive sales in Palace history.

Reasons why Adarabioyo could end up at Selhurst Park this summer

This isn’t a signing which would be easily done by Palace this summer, with Manchester United among the clubs currently courting Adarabioyo.

However, this could be something which changes should Guhei end up being signed by United for example then it may open the door for Palace.

Another reason it could end up being possible is that Adarabioyo is actually already living in London which would mean he’d not need to go through too heavy of a change – something that goes in favour against clubs outside London.

Freedman is the final reason this deal could end up shocking us, as he’s previously pulled magical deals out of his sleeve so we can’t bet against him doing it again.
