As well as Micky van de Ven, Ally McCoist saw another Tottenham player do something 'shocking' in 4-0 defeat

Tottenham No.37 Micky van de Ven hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons today as he endured a nightmarish afternoon in Newcastle.

The Dutchman – who probably still felt elated from the highs of his screamer against Nottingham Forest last week – was completely torn apart by Alexander Isak, ending up on his backside multiple times after being twisted in knots by the Swede.

Speaking live on commentary duty for TNT Sports, Ally McCoist even said it looked like Van de Ven was wearing rollerblades.

However, there was another Tottenham defender who received criticism from the Scot as well…

Ally McCoist hits out at Tottenham No.23 Pedro Porro

Well, as aforesaid, Van de Ven has taken the brunt of humiliation after today’s 4-0 defeat, but Pedro Porro should also take some blame for a truly awful decision in the build up to Anthony Gordon’s goal.

The Spain international bizarrely hoofed the ball back towards his own goal under little pressure, presumably hoping for Guglielmo Vicario or Van de Ven to be there.

However, Porro’s loose pass actually put Gordon in on goal, and McCoist was far from impressed as the 61-year-old exclaimed “that is shocking” on commentary duty for TNT Sports.

It really was shocking – we have no idea what the Spaniard was thinking.

It would have made far more sense for Porro to punt the ball upfield, although he – and many of his teammates – look devoid of any logical thinking inside the raucousness of St James’ Park.

Ange Postecoglou will be concerned

From a technical point of view, Ange Postecoglou will probably be delighted with his Tottenham side this season – Spurs have played slick football, and fans have witnessed some truly wonderful goals.

However – from a mental aspect – the Australian will surely be worried.

There have been some soft displays from Tottenham in home defeats to Wolves, Aston Villa and West Ham, while consistency has been a major issue as well.

Apart from a seven-game unbeaten run at the start of the season, Spurs have only been able to reach a maximum of three matches unbeaten before suffering a defeat, pointing to a potential mental block.

Whatever the reason for Tottenham’s patchy form, Postecoglou must put it right over the summer.
