Moyes uses same old tiresome excuse for Fulham defeat and it will just rile everyone up

West Ham United manager David Moyes certainly isn’t the most popular man in East London after our defeat to Fulham on Sunday.

David Moyes desperately needed all three points yesterday, but West Ham United’s defeat to Fulham in the Premier League was exactly what the players deserved in the end.

Despite a positive first seven or eight minutes, the Hammers just weren’t at the races for the rest of the game, with the likes of Lucas Paqueta nowhere near the levels he’s capable of showing.

The defeat was a gutting result. A win would have taken us up to sixth spot in the table but now it’s looking like a top eight finish will be a real challenge.

Let’s face it, West Ham have been awful in 2024. We’ve won just four of our last 20 games in all competitions – not good enough.

It’s no coincidence that our real dip in form came after the shocking January transfer window. The fact that we allowed Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals to leave without replacing them is unforgivable.

The awful Kalvin Phillips signing certainly hasn’t helped our cause, but what excuse did Moyes serve up for the defeat yesterday?

David Moyes shares tiresome excuse for Fulham defeat

The Scot addressed the media after yesterday’s shambolic showing against the Cottagers, and the ensuing 2-0 defeat.

Moyes has made a habit of blaming a lot of things for our poor form and run of results really, all apart from himself of course.

Moyes responded when asked by the performance was so bad at the London Stadium yesterday, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“It’s an opportunity to bounce back against Bayer Leverkusen. It’s a quick turnaround but it’s not as quick a turnaround as Thursday to Sunday. When it is Sunday to Thursday you have an extra day or two to get yourself ready, and it’s a little bit easier to prepare for that game, while the other gives you no time at all. We will get ready for the game on Thursday night now, and hopefully we can respond in the right way.”

I’m sorry David, but you’ve caused this problem.

The Scot is moaning about tired legs yet he didn’t make one single substitution during our 1-1 draw with Tottenham two weeks ago.

Then, he only made two changes out in Leverkusen last week – and not until he 86th minute! He can’t have it both ways.

The Hammers boss has allowed the situation to manifest whereby he has a dangerously thin squad at his disposal.

Another thing, I’m still yet to hear a reporter ask him what the difference is between Thursday / Sunday games and Wednesday / Saturday matches.

The answer is…there isn’t a difference. Moyes rolled out the same old tiresome excuse after the Fulham defeat but it just doesn’t wash anymore.
