New player enters Sam Lammers game; they never replaced reported £6m Rangers star

Sam Lammers and Danilo were signed to the tune of £9m by Rangers to make a difference in the final third at Ibrox.

But whilst one in the shape of £6m Brazilian striker Danilo has been laid up for 75% of the season, £3m Dutch forward Lammers is tearing it up at Utrecht.

Breaking a 40-year record at the Eredivisie side after scoring in his sixth consecutive Dutch top flight match, it’s eight goals since a January loan switch from Ibrox.

Having been given the number 9 jersey in Holland, Rangers’ profligate finishing has naturally increased scrutiny on the Sam Lammers situation at Utrecht.

But it turns out Rangers fans aren’t the only ones with eyes on the ex-Atalanta forward.

Feyenoord want Sam Lammers?

There is plenty of chatter about Sam Lammers moving on permanently from Rangers in the summer.

Utrecht are known to be interested but given a combination of the fee – believed to be around £2.5m – and wages, the Rangers striker is thought to be outwith the Dutch club’s reach.

But there is another club in the Dutch top flight reportedly monitoring Sam Lammers in an extraordinary twist of fate that could see Danilo’s millions reinvested at Ibrox.

Yes, that’s right, Dutch side Feyenoord have just been named as one team who are watching Sam Lammers in the Netherlands.

At least that’s according to Dutch journalist Martijn Krabbendam of Voetbal International, who claimed on a podcast attached to the newspaper: “I think they have sometimes thought about him at Feyenoord.”

Danilo millions to be reinvested at Rangers?

It’s been an interesting season for Feyenoord.

The current Dutch champions, although they appear likely to surrender the crown to PSV Eindhoven, the De Kuip side sold Danilo to Rangers in the summer.

Replacing the Brazilian striker – who scored 14 goals for the club last season – with Japanese hitman Uyase Ueda, things haven’t gone to plan this season.

The Japanese international, 25, has only scored twice in 32 games this campaign and Sam Lammers might be viewed as a potential solution.

The fact Feyenoord have been mentioned is further evidence that there is a player in Sam Lammers although it’s highly unlikely he’ll ever realise it at Rangers.

A summer sell to recoup our money is the best move for all parties – just ask Barry Ferguson – and Rangers may well be hoping Feyenoord step up any interest in the coming months.
