‘Been amazing’: Dele Alli says 21-year-old player has flourished since leaving Man City

Dele Alli has heaped praise on one player for what he’s done since leaving Manchester City.

The previous summer transfer window saw numerous players make moves in and out of the Manchester club on permanent and temporary deals.

With several players making exits from City on permanent deals during the period, one figure, in particular, has been on the receiving end of some significant praise from one current top-flight player.

Speaking on Monday Night Football ahead of Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Everton at Stamford Bridge, Alli had this to say about Cole Palmer and his move from City to the west London club.

He said: “He’s been amazing since he has gone there. It says a lot about him as a player and his mindset as well, leaving City when he could easily have stayed there and won some trophies.

“Chelsea are a massive club but to go there and perform the way he has says a lot about the way he is as a person and it’s good to see.

“They rely on him a lot and to take it in his stride like he has and make it look easy.”

Cole Palmer has been a shining light for Chelsea since Man City exit

After making 41 senior appearances for the Citizens, scoring six goals and supplying two assists, the winger was sold to Chelsea towards the end of the previous summer transfer window in a deal worth an overall fee of £42.5m.

Since then, the 21-year-old has now made 38 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in all competitions, scoring 25 goals and delivering 13 assists along the way.

After Alli shared his praise for the Englishman, Palmer went on to then score four goals in Chelsea’s win over Everton, taking his tally for the season to 20, the same as Erling Haaland.

In addition to those goals, the former City academy graduate has racked up the joint-third-highest number of goal-creating actions in the league (21), equalling Rodri’s total.

His overall league performances have earned Palmer a strong season rating of 7.44/10 from WoScored, making him the fourth-highest-rated player in the division.

Taking all of that on board, it’s hard to disagree with Alli about how good the winger has been since he waved goodbye to the Etihad Stadium and became the main man at Chelsea.
