'Sorting details': Journalist claims Liverpool are progressing in pursuit of 'supercoach' as Klopp's successor

Liverpool are looking to bring in a new manager to succeed Jurgen Klopp, who is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

The incredibly popular Reds boss has decided that he will vacate the club’s dugout once the season comes to an end.

Liverpool have been linked with a host of managers since the news and, with Xabi Alonso ruling himself out of leaving Bayer Leverkusen, they’ve had to look elsewhere.

Speculation linking the Reds with Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim has been particularly intense in recent weeks.

The 39-year-old has played down suggestions that he’s set to take over at Liverpool, but at the same time he hasn’t elaborated on his future past the end of the season.

Obviously with Amorim and Sporting in pursuit of the Primeira Liga and the Portuguese Cup, it’s normal for him to refuse to entertain such speculation.

However, this won’t stop speculation from doing the rounds on the rumour mill, and now transfer insider Dean Jones has provided another update regarding Liverpool and the Portuguese ‘supercoach’.

Jones, writing on GiveMeSport, has also spoken out about recent speculation linking the Reds with former Bayern Munich and Monaco head coach Niko Kovac.

What has Dean Jones said about Liverpool, Ruben Amorim and Niko Kovac?

“The stories about Kovac seemed a little odd because, at the moment, there is no sign or reason as to why Liverpool would actually need a back-up plan,” said Jones.

“I do think there is confidence in finding an agreement over making Amorim their manager, but there has always been an acceptance that it would not be sorted out fast.

“As far as I am aware, nothing has gone wrong with early contacts and this is a case of sorting details around him becoming the next manager.

“The fact he is keen on moving to Liverpool as his next step is key and, while there is no actual agreement yet reached, this will soon move on to the next stage of talks when Liverpool’s contact with Sporting becomes active.”

Amorim looks like a great shout for Liverpool, as he’s a young and extremely talented manager who has achieved a lot with Sporting.

The 39-year-old has proven himself to be a “supercoach” and an “incredible” young manager with a bright future in the game.

Hopefully if everything goes well, he’ll be Klopp’s successor at Anfield.
