Clement wants Gers reset as boss looks for one thing players forgot to do

Rangers fans will be wanting to put the fiasco of Ross County behind them but Philippe Clement and the players haven’t had that luxury.

Instead, the Gers boss and his squad have been working hard to put things right, which is no small task given how many issues there were.

Speaking as part of the buildup to our game in hand against Dundee, Rangers manager Philippe Clement has explained what went wrong and what has been going on at Auchenhowie this week.

Rangers issues revealed by Philippe Clement

After the game, James Tavernier gave us an insight into the root cause of the apalling second half in Dingwall as the players came out of the tunnel fresh from the hair dryer treatment from the gaffer, only to ignore his threats.

When asked why Rangers were so bad against Ross County and what he has been doing to put things right, Clement said:

“It had to do with structure, organisation, it had to do with so much will to attack and make the difference that we forget to do our basics. We talked about that.

“We didn’t do our basics anymore. We didn’t show our structure, what has been our strong point all season, and because of that we were the team who conceded the least goals although we played attacking football.

“Sometimes you need a knock on your head to remind you again what you need to do to be strong and not only think about the fine details but to stay in your foundation.

“It was with good will, with good intention, but we lost our structure in that way and we conceded goals that were, for sure, avoidable.”

This was the issue.

It wasn’t one player making a mistake or one player getting sent off, or a decision going against us, it was a shocker all over the park.

Only Todd Cantwell could come off the park knowing that he had done his best only to be let down by those around him.

Can Clement get us firing on all cylinders again?

Theoretically, the problems are relatively easy fixes.

We can’t commit so many bodies forward.

If we do, the shape that Philippe Clement has spoken about so often since joining Rangers, needs to be perfect.

On too many occasions in Dingwall, when we lost the ball, the shape simply wasn’t there to win it back.

No wonder we conceded our highest expected goals in six years.

The players have been doing what the manager wanted since he first set foot in Ibrox so it should be a chance to reset and go again and find the form that got us back in the title race in the first place.
