'It's true': Fabrizio Romano drops update on £43m reported Arsenal target who boasts 'world-class potential'

Arsenal have made a lot of progress in recent years, even if the last few days have been a bitter pill to swallow for Gunners fans.

Arsenal did well to reach the Champions League quarter-finals, but Bayern Munich proved too big a hurdle for them at the Allianz Arena.

As for their Premier League title hopes, the Gunners now have to hope Manchester City slip up at some point in the next six games.

The Gunners board will be eager to strengthen further in summer, and there’s a decent chance we could see numerous signings through the N5 doors.

In recent days, Arsenal have been linked with a defender who has been making a huge name for himself in the Bundesliga.

The player in question is Willian Pacho, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt and for the Ecuador national team.

BILD Sport recently claimed that Arsenal are interested in the 22-year-old, while Liverpool have also been credited with an interest.

Fabrizio Romano, writing on CaughtOffside, has now spoken about the Gunners’ purported interest in Pancho.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Arsenal links with Willian Pancho?

The transfer insider says “it’s true” that Pancho has a price tag between €50-60million (£43-51million), but stressed that no English club has firmed up their interest.

“Although there have also been stories about Liverpool enquiring about Eintracht’s talented Ecuador defender Willian Pacho, along with Arsenal, I have no concrete updates about specific clubs,” said Romano.

“It’s true that Pacho has a price tag of around €50-60m and it looks like an open race for his signature this summer. I’m told nothing is at concrete or advanced stages with English clubs.”

Arsenal boast two of the best centre-backs in the league in William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, but having someone else of high-calibre who can compete with them is never a bad thing.

Pancho has gone from strength to strength at Frankfurt and it’ll be exciting to see how he continues to develop in the coming years, not to mention what the summer will bring in terms of speculation.

TEAMtalk has compared him to Cristian Romero, while the Bundesliga website shared what head coach Dino Toppmoller said about him.

“He’s doing a great job, and is getting better all the time,” he said. “He’s really reliable and has world-class potential.”
