'Unavailable': Unai Emery confirms four Aston Villa players are out of Bournemouth clash tomorrow

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has revealed four players are now out of the Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Sunday.

Villa head into the weekend fixtures in fourth place after their superb performance against Arsenal last Sunday.

Tottenham’s loss to Newcastle United means Villa are now in pole position to secure a spot in next season’s elite competition.

Ange Postecoglou’s side sit three points adrift but hold an all-important game in hand, which could prove crucial come the end of the season.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Emery has shared the latest on the injury front.

Setbacks have consistently hampered Villa during the 2023/24 season. The Spaniard confirmed that four players would be certain to miss Sunday’s fixture against Andoni Iraola’s side.

“Alex Moreno, Mings, Buendia, Ramsey are still unavailable,” he explained [via the Birmingham Mail]

“I think no more. After the match we played yesterday, we will have to wait and then decide.”

On Bournemouth, the Villa boss added: “Bournemouth are playing very well, they are very competitive, and they demand a lot if we want to beat them. My first objective is to recover the players who played 120 minutes and the emotion we had yesterday. We need to rest and recover for Sunday.

“We will need today evening and tomorrow to rest the players. Bournemouth, really I appreciate the coach and the players. They are pushing, pushing and pushing always. The match like we played there was really difficult.”

Who has the hardest run in – Aston Villa or Tottenham?

There are no real surprises on the injury front for Villa. Alex Moreno missed the midweek clash against Lille; the other three are longer-term issues.

Emery is likely to have a similar availability to midweek.

Villa’s run-in is not straightforward, but compared to Tottenham’s, it looks relatively kind.

Per an interesting piece of work from Soccerstats, the combined PPG of Villa’s remaining opponents, on average, is 1.45. Spurs’ is 1.61. With Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea still to play, Postecoglou’s men will have to produce something pretty special to break back into the top four.
