Leicester City star Abdul Fatawu now tops the Championship for one impressive statistic this season

Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu has now emerged out on top of an incredible Championship statistic.

Fatawu joined The Foxes last summer on loan from Sporting and has enjoyed a phenomenal debut campaign.

The 2004-born has looked every inch of a Premier League player and opposing defenders have struggled to cope with his electric pace and trickery.

That was no more evident than on Saturday, as he laid on a superb assist for Jamie Vardy, who netted Leicester‘s second in a close-fought win against West Bromwich Albion.

An incredible statistic has now surfaced, which highlights just how influential Fatawu has been this season.

Leicester supporters have become accustomed to Fatawu’s direct nature, as he often looks to take in his man before cutting back for one of the forwards.

That was on show in abundance yesterday as he danced his way past Conor Townsend down the right before delivering a delicious ball for Vardy to head home.

It marked Fatawu’s 11th assist of the season, though, he should certainly have more, as he has created the most big chances (29) in the Championship, as per Fotmob.

No player in the second tier has created more goalscoring opportunities than the jet-heeled Ghanian, with Leeds United’s Georginio Rutter ranking in second some way behind with 22.

Foxes teammate Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall makes the podium on 19.

Abdul Fatawu admits he wants to stay at Leicester City

Enzo Maresca will be desperate to keep ahold of Fatawu beyond this season and if his side gain promotion to the Premier League, his loan deal will become permanent one.

It has been reported that Leicester will be obligated to pay £14.6m for the 20-year-old wide player if they return to the Premier League, which seems likely at this stage.

Speaking in a recent interview with BBC Radio Leicester, Fatawu admitted that he wants to remain at King Power Stadium.

“I want to stay here but for now we just need to focus on the season and maybe after we know what is going to happen,” the loanee said.

Two wins from their remaining three games will be enough to secure automatic promotion for Leicester and if Leeds United were to lose against Middlesbrough on Monday, they could seal it the following day, as they play host to Southampton.
