Report: Arsenal have now made contact over signing 'amazing' £47m Champions League winning defender

Arsenal are on the lookout for new players this summer and have reportedly made a first move to sign a Champions League winner.

The Gunners remain very much in the title picture this season after winning this weekend but know they are relying on Manchester City to slip up as well.

What will be will be with the title, of course.

But when it comes to the summer window, new players are wanted and according to reports, the Gunners are looking at a Champions League winning defender.

Arsenal make contact with Champions League winning defender’s agents

Left-back has been a problem position for Arsenal all season long.

At the moment, Jakub Kiwior seems to be the man of choice for Mikel Arteta, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu have also played there.

There is a belief that the returning Jurrien Timber could end up being the number one choice.

However, there is also a feeling that Arsenal will move for a new left-back and according to a report from L’Equipe, the Gunners have made a move for Real Madrid star, Ferland Mendy.

Arsenal make move for Ferland Mendy

According to the report, the Gunners have made a first move for Mendy and have been in touch with the agents of the player over a potential deal.

Mendy, a regular for Madrid this season having played over 30 games, is among a number of players to be linked with a move to The Emirates in recent weeks.

Madrid paid a whopping £47m to sign Mendy in the first place and any deal from Arsenal is likely to have to match that figure or even go beyond it.

Lauded by Raphael Varane as a player who has amazing strength, Mendy would certainly give Mikel Arteta a specialist in the position.

Whether or not Arsenal can even remotely convince Madrid to do business, remains to be seen.

But contact with his entourage suggests there might be room for something here and Mendy is certainly one for Arsenal fans to keep an eye on.
