Report: Leicester City linked with signing 'creative' 26-year-old who models his game on Frank Lampard

A transfer rumour has just emerged linking Leicester City to a Premier League ace.

Transfer plans will be drawn up behind the scenes as Enzo Maresca‘s side battle it out for a top-two finish.

The Foxes were 2-1 victors against West Bromwich Albion on the weekend, which moved them to the summit of the Championship table, four points ahead of third-placed Leeds United.

They now need two wins from their remaining three games to mathematically secure automatic promotion and play host to Southampton on Tuesday evening.

If they are to bounce back to the top flight, it appears they have a target ready to pounce on in the summer transfer window.

Leicester are in desperate need of another midfielder of a similar profile to Harry Winks to take the load off his shoulders.

Against Albion, Winks looked tired and considering he’s started 42 of the 43 league games this term, it’s understandable.

So it’s no surprise to see The Foxes linked with a midfielder, as Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff is on the radar, according to the Sunday People.

Longstaff, a ‘creative’ number eight who models his game on Frank Lampard, is also attracting interest from Championship rivals Leeds United.

The 26-year-old only has one year remaining on his deal at St James’ Park and could be available for between £15-20m.

Sean Longstaff would be perfect for Leicester City

Longstaff would be a perfect fit for Maresca’s possession-based brand of football as he’s very well-equipped on the ball.

According to FBref, he ranks in the top 19 per cent for progressive passes across the top five leagues in Europe.

Further, the playmaker is hardly ever injured so he would be a reliable option for the East Midlanders, who have had problems in the medical department over the last few seasons.

Longstaff has a Transfermarkt value of £21.5m, though, due to his current contract situation it appears City could land his signature for a lot less than that, which would represent shrewd business.

Leicester are going to need to be clever in the transfer market this summer, as they navigate their way around Profit and Sustainability regulations.
