'Same problem': Mauricio Pochettino confirms two Chelsea players have picked up injuries recently

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has now given an injury update on Malo Gusto and one of his team-mates.

Before his pre-match press conference today, Chelsea’s official website confirmed that Malo Gusto was undergoing a medical assessment.

It is not what Pochettino needs right now, with Reece James still out injured and the Blues having a huge game against Arsenal tomorrow.

Win that, and they could go level on points with Newcastle United in sixth.

It will not be an easy game, though, with their opponents currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table.

Mauricio Pochettino gives injury update ahead of Arsenal vs Chelsea

Fortunately for Chelsea, Gusto’s injury does not look too serious, but it remains to be seen whether he will be able to make the trip to the Emirates.

The same applies to Ben Chilwell, with Pochettino confirming that the left-back is suffering from the “same problem” he has had for the last few weeks.

Chelsea at least have a proper alternative to Chilwell in the form of Marc Cucurella.

However, if Gusto is not fit enough to play tomorrow, then Pochettino is going to have to use a makeshift right-back.

Who will start for Chelsea tomorrow if Malo Gusto and Ben Chilwell are unavailable?

Either Axel Disasi or Trevoh Chalobah will have to be the makeshift right-back should Gusto not recover in time.

It is not ideal. You really do not want a central defender going up against Gabriel Martinelli on the wing. But Pochettino’s hands could be tied here.

As for Chilwell, as already mentioned, Cucurella is the obvious candidate to start instead of the England international as he has been doing of late.
