'He had an MRI': National team doctor announces how long Diego Gomez will be missing for Inter Miami

Paraguay national team doctor Osvaldo Insfran has shared how long Diego Gomez will be out injured for Inter Miami.

The 21-year-old midfielder was stretchered off in Saturday’s 3-1 win against Nashville SC as Gomez became the latest Inter Miami player to suffer what might be a potentially major injury, with Facundo Farias already out for the season.

Whilst the likes of Benjamin Cremaschi have returned to action, Gomez’s injury on the weekend has come across as a major blow for Inter Miami, with Sergio Busquets already voicing his concerns over how long the Paraguayan international will be out for,

And national team doctor Insfran has now given his verdict on how long Gomez will be missing.

Inter Miami could miss Gomez for six weeks after injury update

Speaking on Paraguayan radio station Radio Caritas UC, Insfran confirmed that Gomez had suffered a grade three ankle sprain, and injury that will keep the Inter Miami star out of action for potentially six weeks.

The Paraguay national team doctor said when asked what the results were of Gomez’s MRI scan: “It’s the ankle, a sprain, grade three. Today he had an MRI, it is a fairly delicate injury. The recovery period is four to six weeks.”

Whilst Inter Miami only have MLS to worry about, losing Gomez for as long as six weeks and before the start of the Copa America is a massive blow for the Herons, with Tata Martino a big fan of the midfielder and his potential.

Moreover, with Gomez already subject to transfer interest from European clubs, the midfielder being out for six weeks could throw a massive spanner in the works in the youngster winning a summer move, something the 21-year-old was likely thinking about.

Gomez injury could skew a lot of plans for the Herons

Gomez has emerged as one of the breakout stars in MLS for Inter Miami, with the midfielder forming a good connection with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and showing promise of becoming a superstar in the future.

Yet this injury and the timing of it could not have been more awkward, with Gomez set to miss a good chunk of the regular season as well as preparation for the Copa America, where Paraguay will fancy themselves this year as underdogs.

Coupled in with the upcoming summer transfer window, and many plans could now be skewed for the Herons and Gomez, who will want to return to action ahead of schedule in the coming weeks.
