'Brilliant for us': Bannan explains what has really 'struck' Sheffield Wednesday about Danny Rohl

Barry Bannan has explained what Danny Rohl has done since joining Sheffield Wednesday that has really ‘struck’ the players.

Danny Rohl has spent six months at Sheffield Wednesday since replacing Xisco Munoz in October 2023.

The Owls had managed to pick up only three points in eleven games before the German coach took charge, but picked up their first victory less than two weeks into his tenure.

They have now claimed 13 wins in 33 matches since, with their recent win over Blackburn Rovers taking them out of the bottom three for the first time.

Despite the constant threat of relegation this season, Danny Rohl has come under huge praise from the media and the supporters.

Both Barry Bannan and Josh Windass have already labelled the 34-year-old the best coach they have ever worked with, despite this being his first six months in any management role.

Before Rohl’s arrival, it looked like it would take a miracle to give Wednesday any chance of staying up, and now it is set to go down to the final day.

Danny Rohl really ‘struck’ Sheffield Wednesday

Bannan has now explained exactly what the head coach has done that really ‘struck’ to the first team squad.

Speaking ontalkSPORT, the midfielder said: “He’s been brilliant. I think what came across and struck the players so much was his confidence and his belief in the group to get us out of the situation that we found ourselves in.

“I know sometimes managers can come in and say things, but you could feel that he genuinely believed he could help us survive this season. And then adding to that, tactically on the training ground and the work that he’s put in, and the way he studied on teams and their weaknesses has been brilliant for us.”

What has Danny Rohl brought to Hillsborough?

Danny Rohl is a real master tactician and has proven how brilliant of a coach he is rather than just a manager.

It comes as no surprise though, given that he has gained his experience at Southampton, RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and the German national team – working with the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich.

It is a completely different kettle of fish working with some of the best players in the world, to suddenly be working with a number of League One quality players at the bottom of the Championship.

Rohl has mastered it though, and his relationship with the players and his ability to communicate with them seems to have been a key factor to that.

Rohl knows exactly what he is doing because he will always do his research and analyse every little thing ahead of a match.

He has brought a whole new attitude to this squad and, while it might not be full of quality, he has brought confidence to these players to the point where they believe – and know – that they are better than League One now.
